Rightster was founded in 2009 by Charlie Muirhead with the mission of building the world's largest b2b content marketplace.
With a background in producing original brand-funded content, it soon became clear that with the massive fragmentation in online content and advertising, the real need was for efficiency. Publishers were suffering from reduced budgets and needed fast, efficient ways to source premium content, whilst content producers faced a huge complexity in getting effective finance, distribution, marketing and monetisation of their content. Charlie and the team immediately started developing a self service platform to address these needs and connect all these market participants.
Rightster currently has over 1000 producers and publishers signed up, including many of the UKs leading production companies, newspapers, blogs and broadcasters.
Rightster's unique software service uses a 'social web' model to connect all market participants in the production and publication of online video. The connections and automated tools help producers to efficiently finance, distribute, market and monetise their projects, whilst Rightster's personalised marketplace in turn enables publishers to source premium video. The service supports ad-funded, paid or licensed commercial models.
Having started out without any previous business experience or industry contacts, Charlie Muirhead has, through sheer determination and relentless energy, become one of the industry's most well-regarded entrepreneurs, networkers, and telecoms industry experts.
Today, Charlie is Founder and CEO of t5m – the 5th medium. Prior to t5m, Charlie's previous role was as Founder and President of software company Nexagent. Prior to Nexagent, Charlie founded iGabriel.net in May 2000 – an angel investment network of 30 business leaders providing start-up companies with capital and access to a network of industry leaders and entrepreneurs. Charlie's success began in 1996 with the inception, flotation and acquisition of Orchestream.
Over these years, Charlie has engaged and listened to the needs of over 100 carriers, many of the world's leading integrators and virtual network operators, and over 50 global enterprises. This has enabled him to gain a unique and true understanding of the complex challenges and needs of carriers and system integrators.
