WebMission11 is a competition to identify and support the best fast-growing "Web Economy" technology companies in the UK. The "Web Economy" refers to the individuals, enterprises, investors, clusters, sectors and value webs contributing to innovation in: mobile, social, semantic and real-time web technologies; Cloud2; social gaming; and 3-D/RealVR environments. The top 20 judged UK Web technology companies will travel to San Francisco March 5th – 11th 2011, following on from the Game Developers Conference and leading on to SXSW, to explore opportunities for growth with key investors, potential partners and customers, media and other stakeholders in Silicon Valley.

The WebMission11 competition co-launched with the Telegragh's Tech Start-Up 11 competition at TechHub in London on Monday 13th December. A short and simple online application process was open until Friday 21st of January. Applicant companies were assessed on their ability to do meaningful business in the US; from setting up office, finding funding, to extending their network and developing sustainable transatlantic relationships. The companies were also assessed on their business viability and the strength of the management team. The final selection was balanced to form a mix of companies that show the breadth of what the UK has to offer in this space. In a very few cases, some criteria was relaxed for younger companies presenting particularly innovative ideas.

WebMission11 is sponsored by the Technology Strategy Board, UK Trade & Investment, law firm Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe and Silicon Valley Bank. WebMission11 was founded by Polecat and The Co-Sponsorship agency and is delivered by The Long Run Venture.
