FAQs

What will it cost?

Costs are still being finalised at this time. We will update you as soon as possible.

What is the deadline to apply?

Applications must be received by midday on 30th January 2009.

Will preference be given to social entrepreneurs?

To be clear, no preferential treatment will be given to social entrepreneurs/businesses. Web Mission will be providing input into the UK Trade & Industry selection process from a sustainability perspective, looking at how a business can articulate its impact across the triple bottom line of People, Planet and Profit. The businesses that go out to San Francisco will be sound 21st Century UK web businesses looking to extend their reach into the US; as such they will also be able to articulate their intended impact on People, Planet and Profit.

When do I have to commit to going?

We will be asking successful companies to commit to taking up their place and pay their contribution by 6th February 2009. We do not ask for any deposit ahead of your final commitment. However, due to the non-refundable nature of hotel and flight bookings, after the 6th February deadline it will not be possible to make any refunds.

When will I hear if my application to join has been successful?

We will contact all applicants late on the 2nd February 2009. Please note that final commitments and payments will be due by the 6th February 2009, so please ensure that you (or a nominated administrator) are available during that period to deal with practicalities.

We’ve been trading much more than two years. Are we eligible?

Yes, you could be. The requirement for two years trading history and/or other evidence of real potential to expand into the US market is intended to ensure that applicants have the ability to benefit from the Web Mission. We recognise that some smaller companies will have been trading for longer periods but may still benefit from joining the Web Mission. You may even already have some presence in the US. Whatever your company’s exact situation, please apply, telling us what you would your objectives for the Web Mission would be.

What if I haven’t been trading for two years yet?

This is not a problem providing you can supply evidence that you are in a position to engage with the US market or investors, for example through your current funding, business plans, or your directors’ credentials. We recognise that the vibrant and fast moving nature for Web 2.0 businesses means that younger companies may be ideally placed to capitalise on this opportunity.
